The BBAO was the Southern sky observing station of the USNO. It was located on Black Birch ridge outside of Blenheim on the South Island of New Zealand. Its principle mission was the observation with the 7-inch transit circle of the International Reference Stars. Observations are now complete and the station is closed. The results of the observations made at BBAO will be incorporated into the Washington Fundamental Catalog.
