The following statistics are based on the WDS reference code. Totals are provided for the number of means (usually, as published - a line of data in the WDS measurement database) and the number of measures (each mean position often comes from N measures, usually increasing their weight). To the extent that it is known, multiple authors participating in a distinct group are counted together. For example, CHR (CHARA) includes measures with a reference code of MCA (Hal McAlister), FU (Hseih-Hai Fu), SHU (Ali Al-Shukri), and FEK (Frank Fekel) as well as selected measures of HRT (William Hartkopf) and MSN (Brian Mason). Later measures by MSN and HRT are grouped with others in the WSI (Washington Speckle Interferometry) series which are not listed by author, but attributed to the WSI group. An additional complication is reference code MSN12 which is a combination of WSI and CHR data. Finally, the micrometer measures of Charles Worley (WOR) have been totalled separately from his contributions to the WSI speckle total. Two other codes which deserve some explanation are WFC and WFD (which have been grouped together as WFC in these totals). These double star measures have been extracted from the Washington Fundamental Catalog Database, a collection of 144 astrographic (WFC code) and transit circle (WFD code) catalogs covering a timebase of over one hundred years and most recently used in the computation of proper motions for the Tycho-2 project. While not intended as a double star reference, the utility of this was known early in the 20th century, and many of the doubles in the Astrographic Catalog were previously gleaned by Barton (BRT), Pourteau (POU), and others. However, there remained a plethora of double star measures in these catalogs which have now been cross-referenced with the WDS to produce these totals.
