USNO Robotic Astrometric Telescope
URAT: the Astrograph (early phases)
- uses existing B&C mount and "redlens", with
- completely new electronics / control system and
- completely new tube assembly (built in USNO Instrument Shop)
- uses shutter from Bonn University group
The URAT telescope in April 2008. The lens, camera and shutter
in that version were very cheap; however the imaging capability
was rather limited.

Cables are led through the polar axis of the mount and picked
up by a structure due North inside the dome. The arm on the left
holds a counterweight which needs to be moved to balance the
telescope depending on the liquid nitrogen level in the dewar.
The top end of the tube will eventually hold the "redlens"
instead of the counterweights shown here.
The lower section of the telescope tube will eventually hold
the 4-shooter camera, replacing the counterweights currently
